b'Chapter hapterOnly use medical oxygennever industrial oxygen which contains impurities The safety pressure test date that is stamped on the cylinder shoulder must not be greater than10 years.StorageFull and empty cylinders must not be stored together.Oxygen cylinders are to be stored upright in a cool, ventilated room which is fire resistant. Cylinders stored in the open should be protected from dampness and extremes of weather.Delivery System & Flow RatesOxygen is delivered from the cylinder by a regulator that reduces the high cylinder pressure to a safe working pressure of approximately 60 psi (4 atmospheres).Pin fittings on the delivery apparatus (yoke) match holes on the valve system of the cylinder. This Pin Index safety system prevents application of an incorrect regulator to the oxygen cylinder or vice versa. The oxygen flow must be capable of being measured and controlled. This may be from a fixed flow self sealing outlet (3, 5 or 8 litres per minute). An adjustable flow meter which allows 1 to 14 litres per minute can also be used.Oxygen tubing: Translucent PVC with an internal diameter of 4-8mm is used fortransporting oxygen via flow meters to a mask or cannula. Linket tubing connector:Universal transparent nylon connector is used for connecting a nasal cannula to oxygen tubing.Face masks: Universal transparent semi-soft plastic that deliver oxygen (refer to flow ratesbelow).Intra-nasal cannula: Soft plastic two pronged devices that fit into the nostrils.Humidifier: A water bottle through which oxygen is bubbled. This adds moisture to the dryoxygen. Attach the flow meter and oxygen delivery tube.-Always check oxygen cylinders daily for leaks and ensure that equipment is stored in readiness. Regulators should be wiped down with a damp clothand antiseptic cloth after use. - Advanced Resuscitation 243'
